Technology

Dental Lasers

Dr. Petkevis performs many general, restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures with the help of soft tissue dental lasers. This state of the art dental technology reduces the need for drills – providing patients with a much more relaxing, stress-free dental experience. Soft tissue dental lasers are used to reshape gum tissue and expose tooth structure – allowing for proper repair of any tooth damage, trauma, or decay. Other benefits of using soft tissue dental lasers include:

• Balanced visual gum architecture – improved appearance of the “gummy” smile
• New gum tissue growth stimulation for improved healing times
• Limited soft tissue bleeding and swelling
• Little to no postoperative pain

Digital Imaging

Dr. Petkevis uses digital imaging software to provide patients with an opportunity to see the results of their cosmetic and restorative procedures prior to using any drill or other dental tool. Although this modern technology cannot guarantee exact results as shown in the simulations, it does allow a more effective means for patients to communicate their expectations and goals of a specific procedure. Digital imaging also functions as a highly accurate method for analyzing, diagnosing, and treating specific dental conditions. Other benefits of digital imaging include:

• Enhanced levels of communication between patient and dentist
• Patient records and be easily archived and shared
• Less paper and other material waste

Digital X-Rays

Dr. Petkevis utilizes digital x-rays to assist in diagnosing and treating various dental conditions. Certain elements of oral health are not visible during an examination, including cavities located between teeth, bone strength, and root damage. Digital x-rays provide a clear picture of internal and external factors related to both common and complex dental problems – allowing Dr. Petkevis and staff to determine the best course of treatment for each individual patient. Other benefits of using digital x-rays include:

• Easily stored and duplicated to share with other medical specialists or insurance companies
• Safer than traditional radiographs – emitting approximately 90% less radiation
• Quick and accurate diagnosis

Microdentistry

As an alternative method used to treat tooth decay, microdentistry utilizes precision tools and air abrasion to remove as little of the natural tooth as possible during the process. Dr. Petkevis uses this advanced technology to restore teeth to their original strength and beauty – without the need for local anesthetics in most patient cases. Microdentistry also saves time – allowing Dr. Petkevis and his certified staff of dental hygienists to work in multiple areas of the mouth during a single appointment. Other benefits of using microdentistry include:

• Less noise compared to traditional dental drills
• Prevents teeth from additional decay caused by small cavities
• Conservative pain free treatment option
