February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Establishing good oral healthcare habits from a young age is an important factor in maintaining healthy habits as children grow older. Daily brushing and flossing coupled with routine preventative examinations and cleanings are very effective means to ensuring strong, disease-free teeth and gums. Pediatric dentistry focuses on the unique needs of a child and the accompanying changes in their teeth and gums as they grow. Optimally, children should begin visiting a dentist for routine cleanings and fluoride treatments beginning at age 3 or younger if concerns about oral development or tooth decay are present.

A child’s primary teeth are essential in preparation for permanent teeth and a pediatric dentist possesses comprehensive knowledge in regards to the development of children, special considerations and changing dentistry needs at different stages of child and adolescent development. Choosing to utilize the services of a pediatric dentist for a child in place of a dentist experienced in treating adults is beneficial to the child and their parents. Pediatric dentists recognize the anxiety some patients may feel on their first or subsequent visits and their knowledge of developmental stages and concerns is essential to understanding how to relate to the child and make them feel more comfortable. To treat children resistant to a cleaning or emergency procedure a pediatric dentist may opt to utilize sedation techniques and make the experience for the child more tolerable.

The additional training and experience a pediatric dentist possesses allows them to advise parents on proper dental hygiene, handling thumb sucking and pacifier use in addition to guiding them on foods to avoid and what to include in the child’s diet that will promote dental health. Establishing a routine when children are young and more receptive to a parent’s suggestions helps them to maintain appropriate habits as they mature and become more independent.

There is no reason to be embarrassed by spaces in your smile, whether they are due to crooked or misshapen teeth, as progressive cosmetic dentistry makes it unnecessary. Porcelain veneers have become so sophisticated that they are able to cover your problem teeth with permanent porcelain that is stain resistant and strong enough to endure years of biting and chewing. There are different types of porcelain veneers, and the information offered at www.chesterspringsdentist.com is sure to answer any questions and address any concerns you might have regarding cosmetic dentistry.

The best part about porcelain veneers is that they are permanent and can be applied in a single visit, allowing you to leave the dental office smiling from ear to ear. There are different types of porcelain veneers, sure to meet any individual’s needs. The most common veneer is thin and is applied to the chipped or misshaped tooth, set by a special light, and then filed down into a perfect tooth shape by the dentist. These are very strong and can be applied in minutes. You will leave the dentist’s chair with a perfect smile and no dietary restrictions. In most cases, the veneers actually make your original teeth stronger than they were previously because they cover any cracks or crevices that make teeth weak. These veneers work really well to fix spaces between teeth by making your existing teeth a bit wider to close any gaps.

On severely cracked or chipped teeth, the porcelain veneers used are similar to caps. Porcelain veneers of this ilk fit over your existing teeth, measured and shaped by an advanced computer laser technique, matching your original teeth perfectly, sans imperfections. These veneers are usually put on in sets of six or eight, so your front teeth all match in their perfection. As mentioned earlier, the most recent generation of porcelain veneers are chip and stain resistant, so you won’t have to ever worry about chipped or yellow teeth again. Chester Springs Dental specializes in perfecting smiles, so there is no reason to wait. Let these cosmetic dentistry specialists give you the smile you deserve today.

I was cursed with horrible teeth, and because of that I have multiple amalgam fillings. Most of these are in my back teeth, but a few unfortunate ones are near the front of my mouth, being completely visible when I smile. This has led to a lot of self-consciousness and I was often teased growing up, most often being called metal mouth. Unlike those with braces however, I was stuck with these fillings… so I thought anyway.

As I got older, I began to research more about dentistry. I found that over the years there have been a lot of debate over which type of filling is most effective to use on teeth. In fact, I was surprised to learn that metal fillings can even contain mercury! That’s not something I particularly want in my mouth.

Even better though, was learning about composite resin fillings. Unlike my amalgam fillings, these are white, not silver. This immediately peaked my interest because it meant the possibility of being able to smile without those old metal fillings making my smile look unattractive.

I searched for images of the resin fillings and I was amazed. They looked exactly like the real tooth. If it weren’t for the fact that there were before and after pictures, I never would have guessed that the teeth had any fillings whatsoever.

I talked to my dentist shortly after that and made plans to have the resin fillings put in my teeth rather than the amalgam fillings. I’ve had some work done so far, though a few of my larger cavities, due to their size, will be being treated with porcelain dental inlays instead, which are also white and unnoticeable.

After I had some of the work done, I was amazed by how great my smile looked, but even more, how comfortably these fillings fit my teeth. My old metal ones always felt loose and I had to avoid certain foods or chew a certain way to avoid pain. With these resin fillings, they felt exactly like my teeth. I could bite into apples and even chew gum without feeling like the filling was going to fall out. Overall, I couldn’t be more happy with my new fillings.

Sore and bleeding gums are quite common, but they can actually indicate a rather serious health problem in some cases. You can have sore and bleeding gums if you have not brushed your teeth in long time, but under normal circumstances your gums should bleed or feel sore. These symptoms are a common indicator of gum disease, which actually affects roughly 75% of people in America.

Gum disease is a common dental problem that is caused by bacteria and tartar left behind on the teeth and gums. The bacteria that is left behind can cause the gums to get inflamed and damage the teeth and gums. The early stages of gum disease is also called gingivitis and it can cause the gums to be red, swollen and sore and they may also bleed if the teeth are brushed and flossed. If it is caught early, it can be treated by a dentist with a thorough mouth cleaning and regular brushing and flossing.

When gingivitis continues to grow, it eventually becomes periodontal disease. Periodontal gum disease is a more advanced from of gum disease the can cause damage to the teeth and bones in and around the mouth. The symptoms of of periodontal gum disease can include bad breath, blood and pus oozing from the gums, loose teeth, and even a shift in how the teeth fit. If the disease has progressed this far, then only a dentist can resolve the issue. Oral surgery may be necessary depending on the severity of the disease and at the very least they may do some root planing and scaling to remove all of the excess plaque and bacteria. Sometimes the dentist will also prescribe antibiotics to follow up after the procedure.

Gum disease is a completely preventable disease. It can be prevented by regularly brushing and flossing the teeth. Dentists recommend that people use mouth wash after they have brushed and purchase tooth paste that contains fluoride. Regular visits to the dentist will also prevent the illness because they will clean the mouth thoroughly and prevent these problems from occurring in the first place.

Advances in dental technology have provided less stressful visits, decreased pain and discomfort, and better results. Adults and children who once dreaded their appointments now enjoy the benefits of modern methods that save themselves and their dentist time and money.

Digital imaging uses state of the art software to simulate the results of procedures. Patients are given a better idea of what to expect as the doctor visually communicates the outcome with them. Another benefit of imaging involves patient records. Instead of old fashioned paper records, data is stored digitally which permits easier retrieval, decreases the amount of paper used, and lessens waste.

Digital x-ray equipment emits up to ninety percent less radiation than the standard method making it safer for both patients and staff. Hidden cavities and damage to roots are more apparent, and bone strength is also quickly determined. These films are conveniently stored and quickly accessed.

Microdentistry incorporates precise tools with air abrasion to remove less tooth surface than old fashioned drilling. Oftentimes the use of a local anesthetic is not needed since there is much less pain and vibration experienced by patients. Less noise is produced, and sessions are not as long since less time is needed to obtain the desired result.

Soft tissue dental lasers are used for restoration and other cosmetic procedures pertaining to the gum tissues. Less stressful and more relaxed sessions allow the dentist to reshape the gums with less bleeding, inflammation, and pain to the patient. This method also stimulates the growth of new tissue which improves and speeds healing. Teeth are also more easily exposed to ensure proper treatment and repair.

Improvements in dental technology provide less traumatic procedures, save time, and improve efficiency and communication between the doctor, staff, and their patients. The dental experience for both the practice and patient are greatly enhanced by utilizing these methods. The pain once endured by patients during and after procedures no longer is an issue. For the staff, there is no more difficulty in maintaining hundreds of patient records for immediate access.

There is widespread debate about the safety of old metal fillings, some of which contain mercury as a main component. In addition to the health concerns associated with mercury, metal fillings can affect a patient’s confidence as they are very obvious in the mouth. If you have metal fillings, consider having them removed and replaced with new fillings that are proven safer and look far more natural than those used in the past.

Technological advances have made it possible for fillings to look more like the natural surface of a tooth. These fillings, called resin composite-based fillings, both look and feel like your actual teeth. The color of a composite filling is very similar to the color of a tooth’s enamel, and it is as strong, or stronger, than old metal fillings. A large range of composite shades and colors are available for a dentist to use in order to match your tooth color as closely as possible and leave you with a confident, natural-looking smile. Composite resin fillings are especially useful to restore or fill cavities in front teeth, since they are nearly impossible to distinguish from a patient’s real teeth.

Composite fillings can be completed in a single visit, and require almost no recovery time. Many dentists allow their patients to eat normal foods almost immediately after having a filling completed. Composite fillings are placed into a drilled and cleaned tooth, and are shaped by the dentist. The fillings are then bonded into place, generally using a special light or laser, to provide a protective layer for the tooth.

When completed, composite fillings are almost invisible in the mouth; many patients cannot tell where the filling was even done. Few patients report problems with composite fillings, and many recommend them to friends. If you are tired of looking at a mouth full of metal fillings, take a step toward a renewed sense of confidence. Check into composite dental fillings today and learn to love your smile again.

When a person smiles, it shows that he or she is warm and friendly. The key to keeping one’s smile beautiful is to keep the teeth healthy. Cavities and gum disease are two conditions that can rob the teeth of its health and beauty. Fortunately, dental problems can be prevented by caring for the teeth properly. Brushing the teeth two to three times a day , flossing at least once a day, and eating a healthy diet can prevent most problems. Additionally, people also need to make sure that they see their dentists twice a year for a checkup.

Before a patient is seen by a dentist, he or she will get a professional cleaning from a dental hygienist. Professional cleanings are important because they remove the plaque and bacteria that is hard to remove with regular brushing. Dental hygienist also give x-rays, which allows dentist to get a better view of the patient’s teeth.

After the dental hygienist has done the cleaning and performed the x-ray, the dentist will give a thorough exam of the patient’s teeth. Dentists check for cavities, gum disease and any other dental problem that the patient may have. It is important to note that problems are much easier to treat if they are detected early enough.

Many people are concerned about the rising cost of dental care. More people are choosing to skip their dental visits because of this expense. However, routine care can help a person save money in dental care by reducing the need for fillings, root canals or extractions.

A person’s smile is one of his or her most attractive features. A beautiful smile is a healthy smile. The key to keeping the smile healthy is to keep the teeth healthy. Brushing, flossing, eating a healthy diet and routine dental care can help people keep their smiles beautiful and healthy.
